Dripping Springs High School graduate Josh Malcom (Class of 2020) is spending part of his summer in France for the Paris 2024 Olympics! Malcom is currently a Sport Operations Specialist for the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC), and has been in Paris since mid-July helping members from Nike outfit Team USA athletes for the opening and closing ceremonies! In May, he graduated from Oklahoma State University with a triple major in management, marketing and international business with concentrations in sports and nonprofit management.

Rising Dripping Springs High School senior pitcher Cooper Rummel was one of 20 players to be selected to the 2024 USA Baseball 18U National Team, the organization announced this week! Rummel and Team USA will compete in the 2024 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 Baseball World Cup Americas Qualifier in Panama City, Panama, from August 2-11. As a junior, Rummel was named District 26-6A Co-Pitcher of the Year with a 9-1 record and 0.87 ERA. He finished with 88 strikeouts in 56 2/3 innings on the mound. Photo Credit: USA Baseball

On Friday, July 26, first responders from various Hays County agencies will participate in an active shooter response exercise at Cypress Springs Elementary. This will be a coordinated event among the Hays County Sheriff's Office, Hays County Constable's Office, North Hays County Fire Department, and DSISD security personnel. Citizens can expect a heavy presence of first-responder vehicles around the CSE campus. Nearby residents may hear sirens and simulated gunshots from recordings to create a realistic training environment. Thank you to our first responders for working to stay prepared and to keep DSISD students and staff as safe as possible!

Last Wednesday, DSISD welcomed DSHS alumni, former staff, and community members for a special Open House at the Center for Learning & Leadership, the renovated DSISD administration building and Child Development Center. Guests toured the building, which showcases numerous historical items that have been preserved and are now on display, and visited with district leaders and the Board of Trustees.

Congratulations to DSISD employee and Dripping Springs Century News writer Carl Waits on being named the Texas Girls Coaches Association Division II Sportswriter of the Year! Waits has covered Tiger athletics for the Dripping Springs Century News for the last 34 years. He has spent 59 years with DSISD, serving 30 years as a teacher and coach and 29 years as a bus driver.

The check will support Student Leadership Grants, Innovative Teaching Grants, and salaries for three licensed mental health professionals and a staff wellness counselor. 🏐𝐀𝐓𝐇𝐋𝐄𝐓𝐄𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐘𝐄𝐀𝐑🤼‍♂️ Congratulations to Dripping Springs High School student-athletes Henley Anderson and Alec Rill on being named Athletes of the Year for their respective sports at the Austin Area High School Sports Awards ceremony! As a sophomore, Anderson recorded 717 kills, 395 digs and 60 aces in leading the Tigers to the regional finals. She was recently named to Team USA's U-19 squad. Rill captured the 6A state championship in the 215-pound weight class with a 49-2 record as a senior. He finished his career as a three-time state placer and the school record holder with 163 career wins.
