Dripping Springs High School senior Leela Bertram earned a third-place finish in Individual Set Design at the UIL Theatrical Design State Contest on Saturday, May 16, at the Austin ISD Performing Arts Center.
Competing at the state contest for the third consecutive year, Bertram and fellow designers were challenged to create a design for the play, The King Stag, that captured both the joyful spirit of a wedding and the stylized playfulness of commedia dell’arte. The prompt encouraged students to blend classic and contemporary elements by drawing inspiration from the traditional wedding theme: “something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.”
Bertram previously captured a UIL state championship in Group Design in 2025 and earned fourth-place finishes in Set Design in both 2024 and 2025.
