Five Dripping Springs High School swimmers posted state-qualifying times at the Region VII-6A Championships on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio, earning spots at the UIL 6A State Meet.
Senior Laurel Hoskovec set two school records while qualifying in both the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events. Hoskovec broke an eight-year-old school record in the 200 freestyle with a state-qualifying time of 1:50.63, tying for fourth place. She also lowered her own record in the 500 freestyle by more than a second, clocking 4:56.96 to finish second and secure an automatic berth to state.
Freshman Charlotte Riffel also recorded a state-qualifying time in the 200 freestyle, finishing in 1:53.65.
Dripping Springs extended its streak to 10 consecutive years of qualifying a 400-yard freestyle relay team for state. The quartet of Hoskovec, Riffel, sophomore Fairlane Bynum, and junior Izzy Boldrick placed fourth with a time of 3:31.34.
The Tigers also advanced in the 200 freestyle relay, as Hoskovec, Riffel, and Bynum teamed with sophomore Lexi Landrum to place fifth in 1:37.49.
The UIL State Meet will be held Feb. 20-21 at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin.
