DSHS Boys' Golf Team Places 10th at State Tournament
May 23, 2019
The DSHS boys' golf team placed 10th at the 5A State Golf Tournament, held at Georgetown's White Wing Golf Club on May 20-21.
After the first day of the tournament, in which golfers dealt with blustery conditions, DSHS was in 11th place. On day two, the DSHS team members (lowest four scorers count toward team score) lowered their score by a combined 10 strokes to jump into the 10th place position, among 12 total qualifying teams. Senior Jake Sitterle led the team with a two-day total of 156 strokes (79 and 77) to tie for 36th place. Also counting toward the team score were freshman Tanner Wardlaw who shot 162 (83 and 79) to finish tied for 49th place, sophomore Sam Sewell who shot 165 (85 and 80) and sophomore Jake Sewell who shot 169 (84 and 85). Freshman Luke Ezell also competed for the Tigers, shooting 183 (97 and 86). Four of the five Tigers improved their scores on Day 2 from Day 1, despite having to deal with a rain delay that pushed back tee times.
The state appearance for the boys team is DSHS's second consecutive (ninth in 2018) and this year's team won the district title and finished second at the Region IV tournament. The team is coached by Jason Wahlers.
