DSHS Doubles Teams Compete at State Tennis Tournament

May 16, 2019

Two DSHS doubles teams competed at the state tennis tournament on Thursday, May 16. In the first round of the 5A girls' doubles draw the DSHS pair of Karley Higgerson and Whitney Robbins were matched against Grapevine HS's Reilly Cleff and Madison Plowman. The DSHS girls lost the match 6-2, 6-2. On the boys' side, Thane Johannsen and Henry Lovelace faced off against A&M Consolidated HS's Henning Schade and Joey Tindall in the first round. The DSHS boys dropped the match 6-2, 6-1. By qualifying for the state tournament both doubles teams were one of the final eight doubles teams in 5A in their respective events.

The teams of Higgerson/Robbins and Johannsen/Lovelace were the first DSHS doubles teams to qualify for the state tournament since the mixed doubles team of Samuel Brodsky and Sarah Brodsky did so in 2014. The only other DSHS state-qualifier in that time was girls singles player Jayci Goldsmith who won back-to-back state championships in 2017 and 2018.

The state tennis tournament was held at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center and the Omar Smith Instructional Tennis Center at Texas A&M University.
