Long-Range Facility Planning Continues
The third meeting of the Long-Range Facility Planning Committee (LRFPC) will be held May 23, at 6:00 p.m. This meeting will focus on the demographic report by Population and Survey Analysts (PASA), which was presented to the Board of Trustees on March 25. Committee members were asked to review the report prior to the meeting. Following the presentation by PASA, the committee will discuss next steps in the planning process based on the demographic data.
The LRFPC was reconvened in the fall of 2018 following an open invitation for community members to participate. This group will help district administration plan for continued enrollment growth in the district over the next 5-10 years. Nearly 100 community members expressed interest in participating with the committee. In addition, observers may attend single meetings to hear discussion.
At the first meeting held this year, a discussion was held about the potential timelines of when new facilities will be needed and when planning would need to begin for those facilities.
The second meeting included a discussion about whether the future may include a second high school (or more) or if steps could be taken to maintain a single high school. Research was shared and several guests from other Texas school districts talked about their experiences with various high school models.
Summaries of LRFPC meetings can be found here.
Both meetings included a report on the progress of the 2018 bond program, as will Meeting #3. Recent activity includes a series of input gathering meetings regarding the Walnut Springs relocation/construction project at Dripping Springs Middle School and renovations at that campus. Design for those projects, as well as Elementary #5, will occur in coming months. When the school year concludes, construction will begin on the high school expansion, renovations to Dripping Springs Elementary and Rooster Springs Elementary. Also planned for this summer are replacement of turf fields and tracks at DSHS and DSMS. Renovations to the DSISD Transportation Facility will begin later this calendar year.
