Playoff Runs End for DSHS Softball and Baseball Teams

Both the DSHS softball and baseball teams were eliminated from the 5A playoffs - the girls in the regional semifinals and the boys in the regional quarterfinals.

The softball team lost to Flour Bluff HS 13-3 on May 17 in Jourdanton. The loss left DSHS with a final season record of 36-3. DSHS was one of the final 16 softball teams in the 5A playoffs.


Prior to the loss to Flour Bluff, the Lady Tigers defeated SA Harlandale HS 7-0 and 12-2 in a bi-district series, SA Southwest 3-0 in the area round, and Kerrville Tivy HS 15-9 in the regional quarterfinals. Ranked third in the state in 5A at the end of the regular season by the Texas Girls Coaches Association, the Lady Tigers were led by Camille Corona, Bailey Hudgeons, Kyndall Womack, and Ryann Campbell on offense and paced by pitchers Logan Hulon (17-3 record) and Kyndall Womack (15-0). On the season, the Lady Tigers outscored their opponents 372-58.


The team ended the season with impressive statistics. At the plate, the team batting average was .429. Texas-signee Corona led the team with a .650 average, an on-base-percentage of .699, and 44 stolen bases. She has been struck out only four times in 136 plate appearances. Texas Lutheran-signee Hudgeons batted .566, Womack hit .443, and Campbell finished at .416. Six players on the team have at least three homeruns, and eight players have scored at least 20 runs.


Houston-signee Hulon led the team with 109 innings pitched, 200 strikeouts, and a 0.83 ERA. She allowed opposing batters to hit only .090 against her and struck out nearly 48 percent of batters she faced. Womack threw 67.2 innings and struck out 72 batters. She allowed a .191 batting average against her and had an ERA of 1.76. The Tigers were coached by head coach Wade Womack and assistants Paige Sandahl, Kourtney Morris, and Elise Mezger.  


The DSHS baseball team was knocked out of the regional quarterfinals by Kerrville Tivy HS in a best-of-three regional quarterfinal round series. DSHS won Game 1 at home on May 16 by a score of 2-1. The game ended in dramatic fashion as DSHS's (and the game's winning pitcher) Nicolas Gullo drove in Ty Kaatz from second with a base hit in the bottom of the seventh inning. On Friday and Saturday the Tigers dropped games two and three on the road at Tivy HS 3-0 and 5-0 to lose the series. DSHS finishes the season with a record of 25-14-1.


Prior to the series loss to Tivy, DSHS won a bi-district series over Seguin HS two games to one and defeated SA Southwest HS in an area series two games to one. The Tigers were led by head coach Chris Payne and assistants Carlos De La Cerda, Tim Hulon, and Nick De La Cerda.
