DSHS Softball Advances to Area Round of Playoffs; Baseball Begins Post-Season
The DSHS softball team rolled past the bi-district opponent in the 5A playoffs April 25-26, and the baseball team begins play in the post-season May 1.
DSHS softball defeated SA Harlandale HS 7-0 and 12-2 to win a best-of-three bi-district series in a sweep. The team now advances to a single-game area round matchup versus San Antonio Southwest HS on Thursday, May 2, at 7:00 p.m. at Bobcat Softball Stadium at Texas State University. Ranked third in the state in 5A by the Texas Girls Coaches Association, the Lady Tigers are led by Camille Corona, Bailey Hudgeons, Kyndall Womack, and Ryann Campbell on offense and paced by pitchers Logan Hulon (16-2 record) and Kyndall Womack (14-0). With an overall season record of 34-2, the Lady Tigers have outscored their opponents 351-36.
At the plate, the team batting average is .442. Texas-signee Corona leads the team with a .654 average and an on-base-percentage of .699. She has been struck out only three times in 123 plate appearances. Texas Lutheran-signee Hudgeons is batting .583, Womack is hitting .475, and Campbell is at .456. Six players on the team have at least two homeruns, and seven players have scored at least 20 runs.
Houston-signee Hulon leads the team with 98 innings pitched, 183 strikeouts, and a 0.64 ERA. She has allowed opposing batters to hit only .088 against her and has struck out nearly 49 percent of batters she has faced. Womack has thrown 59.2 innings and has struck out 68 batters. She has allowed a .160 batting average against her and has an ERA of 0.82.
The DSHS baseball team has a record of 20-10-1 and finished in second place in District 25-5A. The Tigers' bi-district round matchup is versus Seguin HS in a best-of-three series beginning Wednesday, May 1, in Seguin at 7:00 p.m. Game 2 will be at home in Dripping Springs on Friday, May 3, also at 7:00 p.m. If necessary, a third game will be played at San Marcos HS on Saturday, May 4, at 11:00 a.m.
