Tigers Qualify for Regional Track Meet in Multiple Events
Nearly 20 members of the Tiger track and field teams have qualified for the 5A Region IV Track and Field meet based on their top-four finishes at the area meet April 18. As a team, the DSHS girls finished second at area and the boys were fourth. The Lady Tigers totaled 84 points; Boerne Champion High School won with a total of 193. The DSHS boys' squad scored 73 points, which tied with San Antonio Veterans Memorial High School for fourth.
Among the 10 boys and seven girls who qualified, DSHS runners won three area titles: Marleena Mickel won both the 3,200 Meters (11:31.05) and the 1,600 Meters (5:21.31) and Bobby Holt took top honors in the 800 Meters (1:57.84). Second-place finishers who will advance are: Karsten Bobb in both the 3,200 Meters and the 1,600 Meters, Avery Kalsu in the 400 Meters, Audrey Williamson in the 300-Meter Hurdles, the girls' 4x400 Relay Team (Lilee McGinnis, Kassandra Sawin, Audrey Williamson, Avery Kalsu), the boys' 4x400 Relay Team (Tyler Herron, Andre Perry, Zyle Nance, Ty Kaatz), and Aidan Cavendar in the pole vault. Luke Lawyer will move on in the high jump after placing third. Advancing with fourth-place finishes are: Parker Alford in the 100 Meters, Andre Perry in the 200 Meters, Jack Dombrowski in the 300-Meter Hurdles, Susie Alvarado in the 100-Meter Hurdles, and Hunter Miller in the pole vault.
Regionals are at San Antonio's Heroes Stadium April 26-27.
