The Lady Tigers advanced to the state tournament after winning two games at the 5A-Region IV Tournament in Corpus Christi on penalty kicks. On Friday, April 12, in the regional semifinals DSHS and Gregory-Portland HS battled to a 2-2 tie during regulation time and the overtime periods, then DSHS outscored Gregory-Portland 4-2 on penalty kicks. On Saturday, April 13, the Lady Tigers faced Alamo Heights HS in the regional final match. After playing to a 1-1 tie through regulation and the overtimes, DSHS advanced to the state tournament 3-1 on penalty kicks.
Following the regional tournament, team members learned of the tornado that hit Franklin, Texas, on Saturday, to which one player had a personal connection.
