Dripping Springs High School senior Hanna Gaither is the high school recipient of the Barbara Jordan Media Award as announced by the Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities. She was recognized for her article in DSHS student newspaper, The Paw Print, titled "A Person First Before Hurtful Words."
The annual Barbara Jordan Media Awards have recognized and honored the respectful and accurate portrayal of people with disabilities by media professionals and students. Winners are chosen each year by a panel of judges — including Texans with disabilities, journalists, and professionals in the field of disabilities — and were honored at a ceremony hosted by The University of Texas at Austin April 3. These awards recognized content created in 2018.
The high school award is one of 10 categories in the contest. Other than the "College Student" category, all others are presented to professional journalists, broadcasters, and authors.
