Wrestling Team Second at District Meet; 11 Qualify for Regionals
The Dripping Springs High School wrestling team competed at the District 13-5A Meet in Austin on Feb. 6. The team finished in second place out of the 13 teams in district, with a total of 213.5 points. Senior Clayton Jetton (195 pounds) and junior Chase Warden (145 pounds) led the team by winning district titles in their respective weight classes. Nine other DSHS wrestlers will join Jetton and Warden at the regional competition by placing in the top four of their weight classes at the district meet.
Other regional qualifiers were: Brodie Dyer - 2nd at 120 pounds Cody Barron - 2nd at 126 pounds Daniel Mayes - 2nd at 132 pounds Crystian Zamora - 2nd at 138 pounds Tony Quevedo - 2nd at 152 pounds Luke Norton - 2nd at 160 pounds JJ Guerrero - 2nd at 170 pounds Justin Durham - 2nd at 182 pounds Colby Collins - 4th at 220 pounds
Other Tiger wrestlers who placed among the top six in their weight classes were Blake Spillar (285 pounds) -- who placed fifth and is a regional alternate -- and Cole Kaspar (113 pounds) in sixth place.
In addition, for the first time in school history, DSHS entered a female wrestler at the meet. Catalina (Cat) Miller placed first in her weight class to earn a district title and will advance to regional competition.
The DSHS junior varsity boys' team also competed at the district meet and finished first among JV squads.
The 5A Region IV Championships will be held at the AISD Delco Activity Center Feb. 15-16, 2019.
