Dripping Springs High School track and field athletes Brant Melton and Ava Williamson recorded ninth-place finishes in their respective events at the UIL State Meet on Friday, May 13 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
Making her first state appearance, Williamson finished with a height of five feet, two inches in the high jump. In April, she was a second-place finisher at the region and area meets, tying the school record with a jump of five feet, six inches at the Region IV-5A Meet.
Melton captured district, area and region championships in the 800 meters to advance to state for the first time in his career. The senior timed 1:58.97 in his final race. Melton also won district in the mile and two mile and was the area champion in the mile this season. He ran a personal-best 1:54.59 at the Region IV-5A Meet.
