DSHS Tennis Duo Wins Regional Championship; Qualifies for State

Dripping Springs High School tennis players Whitney Robbins and Lexian Andrushko qualified for the UIL State Tournament after capturing the Region IV-5A mixed doubles title on Wednesday, April 13 in San Antonio.

 

Robbins and Andrushko were dominant in their four victories at the regional tournament, earning a berth after winning the District 26-5A Championship two weeks ago. The duo won their first match over Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial 6-2, 6-0 before concluding the first day with a 6-2, 6-2 win over the District 25-5A champions from Liberty Hill. Robbins and Andrushko opened day two of the competition with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Mission Sharyland. The championship match pitted two District 26 teams against each other with Robbins and Andrushko defeating Boerne-Champion 7-6, 6-2 for a state berth.

 

Robbins will be making her second-straight and third overall appearance at the state tournament in doubles.

 

The Dripping Springs girls’ doubles team of Mia Pleasant and Anna Vollenweider advanced to the regional semifinals with straight-set wins over McAllen Memorial and Mission Veterans Memorial before falling to Liberty Hill to end their run.

 

The UIL State Tournament will be held April 26-27 in San Antonio.
