DSHS Swim Teams Successful at District Meet

The Dripping Springs High School boys’ and girls’ swimming and diving teams had successful showings at the District 18-5A Championships on Friday in San Antonio.

 

Both teams came away with second-place finishes behind Boerne Champion High School, while 28 students qualified for the Region V-5A competition for placing among the top-six finishers in their respective events. In addition, first-year head coach Michael Hoskovec was named the District 18-5A Girls’ Coach of the Year.

 

The girls’ team captured five first-place finishes including a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay with Athena Turner, Macie McCurry, Anna Hoskovec, and Riley Dalton taking gold. Individually, Hoskovec took first in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle races, Turner finished first in the 100-yard butterfly, and Peyton Grot-Lopp captured first in the 100-yard breaststroke.  

 

For the boys, Gage Hembree took first in the 200-yard individual medley, while also being part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team of Colin O’Connor, Joseph Parsons, and Aidan Jones.

 

The girls’ and boys’ teams will each be represented by 14 athletes at the regional meet.

 

The Region V-5A Championships will be held Feb. 4-5 at the Texas A&M University Student Recreation Center Natatorium in College Station. Preliminaries will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Diving will take place on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. followed by the swimming finals at 3:30 p.m.
