DSHS Girls’ Cross Country Finishes Third at UIL State Meet

The Dripping Springs High School girls’ cross country team placed third at the UIL 5A State Meet on Friday, Nov. 5, at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. The Tigers totaled 86 points to match their best team finish in school history (2003).
The Tigers improved their standing throughout the race after sitting in sixth place after the first mile and in fourth place after two miles. Seniors Kate Ginther (8th) and Karsten Bobb (10th) paced the Tigers with top-10 finishes. Senior Marleena Mickel (22nd) and sophomores Rylea Bernhard (23rd) and Chandler Latham (29th) rounded out the team scoring. Freshman Alexa Velasco (68th) and junior Jesse Bookbinder (75th) completed the DSHS team.
Lucas Lovejoy High School won the state title with a team score of 65 points, edging out runner-up Boerne Champion by six points. Colleyville Heritage finished 11 points behind DSHS for fourth place.
The Tigers made their eighth consecutive appearance at the state meet and 11th overall. DSHS also finished in the top five in 2015 and 2020 with fourth-place showings.
