DSMS Student Places Third in National History Day Competition

GillumDripping Springs Middle School rising eighth-grader Grant Gillum earned a third-place finish in the National History Day competition with his individual website.


Gillum’s website titled “Selling Space: The Significance of Propaganda During the Space Race” placed first in the state of Texas to earn him a berth in the national competition.


Sycamore Springs Middle School students Michael and Stephanie Gearing and Luke Voss were also national qualifiers.


National History Day® (NHD) is a non-profit education organization based in College Park, Md. NHD offers year-long academic programs that engage more than 500,000 middle- and high-school students around the world annually in conducting original research on historical topics of interest.


All students began the school year by picking a topic that related to the annual theme“Communication in History: The Key to Understanding” and were judged on the quality of their research, interpretation of primary and secondary sources, and the quality of the presentation of their findings.
