Construction Update
June 15, 2021
The remaining projects from the 2018 bond program are: construction of the new Walnut Springs Elementary, Dripping Springs Middle School renovations, the new Cypress Springs Elementary, and the conversion of the old WSE campus to an Administration Building.
Construction on the new Walnut Springs Elementary and Cypress Springs Elementary is approximately 85 percent complete. Both projects are on time and expected to be ready to open with the new school year.
The exteriors are mostly complete. Both structures are now enclosed and classrooms and other interior areas are being finished out. Asphalt and concrete paving is mostly complete, and flooring, HVAC systems, LED lighting, network cabling, millwork, roofing, and painting are ongoing. Both projects are on schedule and are at or below budget.
DSMS renovations will be completed over the summer break and include improving the outdoor courtyard areas, improving special services facilities, adding collaboration spaces (including one shared with WSE). In addition, new LED lighting will be installed in the cafeteria and both gymnasiums. HVAC system controls, the main electrical service, and certain HVAC units also will be replaced.
Projects that have been completed in the 2018 bond program are:
- Dripping Springs Elementary renovations and furniture upgrades
- Turf/track replacement at both Dripping Springs High School and Dripping Springs Middle School
- Rooster Springs Elementary renovations
- High School classroom wing (J wing)
- DSHS flex gym space
- Expansion of DSHS dance room
- Expansion of the ag barn
- DSISD transportation site/building improvements
Once Walnut Springs Elementary moves into its new home, the former campus will be converted to the DSISD’s central administration building.
In addition, technology updates have been ongoing and the district purchased property in the Headwaters neighborhood.
