Board Approves Update to Facemask Protocols

May 20, 2021

At a special meeting on May 20, the Dripping Springs ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved a recommendation to make facemasks optional in district facilities starting May 28, 2021. This decision comes following an Executive Order issued by Governor Abbott on Tuesday stating that government entities, including school districts, can no longer require facemasks in their facilities starting June 4, 2021. The board chose to implement this directive sooner, in advance of graduation and the start of summer school/camps.

Prior to making the recommendation, Superintendent Dr. Holly Morris-Kuentz reviewed the Governor’s Executive Order, staff survey data, local protocols and potential changes, updates on vaccinations, and recent protocol updates at other local districts.

Other safety protocols will remain in place this summer in DSISD facilities, including cleaning/disinfecting practices and return-to-school timelines following an exposure or positive case.
