Tiger Student Spotlight: DSMS Sixth-Grader Danna Flores

April 30, 2021

The following story is the third installment in the Tiger Student Spotlight series where DSISD features students from each of the district’s seven campuses.

FloresDripping Springs Middle School sixth-grader Danna Flores made the most of a challenging year, which included a move from Utah, and started her own business to help give back to her family.

Flores’ entrepreneurial spirit led to her launching Danna Flores Handmade, building her own website, and starting several social media accounts to help promote her business. She currently paints phone cases with various designs but hopes to expand beyond phone cases in the future.

“My business is called Danna Flores Handmade so it’s not just for phone cases,” Flores said. “In the future I would like to put more products out there.”

Flores’ inventory currently includes 15 different designs with customizable name and color options for some phone cases.

“I really enjoy that they can pick part of their phone case,” Flores said. “I really like making the customizable ones.”

pawsFlores recently turned 12 and received her first phone. While looking for phone cases, an idea to design cases for a cheaper price came to her after browsing expensive phone cases.

“I was looking for phone cases online and they were really cute but they were $70 -$100,” Flores said. “I decided to make a phone case for me and my sisters and I really enjoyed making them.”

Flores said the most challenging parts to starting her own business was starting from scratch and building a website.

In January, Flores and her family moved to Dripping Springs from the Salt Lake City area.

“My teachers and the community have been very nice. I’m enjoying it a lot,” Flores said.
