Four DSHS Track Athletes Advance to UIL State Meet

Four Dripping Springs High School track athletes qualified for the UIL Conference 5A State Championships after their performances at the Region IV-5A competition in San Antonio.
Coleman Chapman won the regional championship in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 38.57 to earn a state berth. Caleb Lopez came away with a regional title in the mile with a time of 4:16.50. Lopez also qualified for the state meet in cross country in the fall where he finished 15th.
Maddie Livingston was the first Tiger to punch a ticket to state after finishing second in the 3,200 meters with a time of 10:54.73. Livingston helped lead DSHS to a fourth-place team finish at the state cross country meet with a 14th-place individual finish. Kate Ginther posted the fastest time among third-place finishers at a regional meet in the 800 meters to earn an at-large bid to the state competition after timing 2:14.04.
All four athletes will be making their first appearance at the state track meet.
Finishing as state meet alternates were the boys’ 4 x 400-meter relay team of Chapman, Luke Ford, Boston Papp and Tyler Papp, as well as Kaleigh Howell in the 400 meters, Livingston in the mile, Sophia Farris in the 100-meter hurdles, and Audrey Williamson in the 300-meter hurdles.
Fourth-place finishers were Lopez in the 3,200 meters, Chapman in the 110-meter hurdles, and Aidan Cavender in the pole vault.
As a team, the DSHS boys tied for third place with 42 points while the girls placed sixth with 38 points.
The UIL Conference 5A State Track Meet will be held Friday, May 7, at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus in Austin.
