DSHS Boys' Wrestling Wins District; 14 Wrestlers Qualify For Regionals

The Dripping Springs High School wrestling teams posted strong performances at the District 13-5A Meet on April 10 with the boys repeating as district champions and the girls tying for fourth place.


With just two entrants, the DSHS girls still managed a fourth-place finish out of 15 teams as Lauryn Hammond and Alyson Brownson-Welch totaled 30 team points and qualified for the regional meet. Brownson-Welch (128 lbs.) won her weight class and Hammond (119) placed second.


The DSHS boys’ team claimed a fourth district title in the last five years with 249 team points, besting second-place Cedar Park by 65.5 points, and qualifying 12 wrestlers for the regional contest.


Capturing district titles on the boys side were Shane Bookbinder (126), Cody Barron (138) and Jefferson Guerrero (152). Second-place finishers were Taylor Van De Walle (106), Cole Kaspar (113), Hagen Shipley (120), Daniel Mayes (160), Alec Rill (170), Luke Norton (182), Grant Clarno (220) and Christian Prehar (285). Seth Rill (145) was also a regional qualifier with a third-place finish.


The regional meet will take place April 16-17 at the Austin ISD Burger Complex.
