STAAR Testing Update
April 6, 2021
Today (April 6) was a scheduled STAAR testing day for fourth- and seventh-graders in Writing, and for high school students taking the English I End-of-Course exam. Schools statewide experienced technical issues through the STAAR online testing platform that disrupted tests. All DSISD schools were affected, and most tests were suspended; however, some students were able to complete testing online and a small percentage of students completed paper tests. Earlier today, our principals reached out to parents of students who were testing to alert them of this situation. This statement was released by TEA.
TEA has indicated that today's scheduled tests will resume tomorrow (April 7), even though the testing vendor has not identified the problem. Because of the uncertainty of these technical issues, DSISD is not rescheduling today's fourth-grade Writing, seventh-grade Writing, and English I End-of-Course tests for Wednesday, April 7. Until we are confident that the technical issue that caused this situation has been completely resolved, our campus and district administrators agree that we will not ask our students to test tomorrow. We will follow through with TEA to get our questions answered, and will keep our families updated on future plans for these exams.
The English II End-of-Course exam is scheduled on Thursday, April 8. At this time, we expect this exam to occur as scheduled. If we receive information from the state tomorrow that indicates anything different, we will reach out to English II students and parents.
We know that our teachers and students planned on today as a STAAR testing day, and that an unexpected disruption such as this can create anxiety. We will continue to support all of our students moving forward through the state assessment process.
