Attendance Zone Discussion Continues; Meeting Date Changed

February 9, 2021

As Dripping Springs ISD prepares for the opening of Cypress Springs Elementary, the process to develop new attendance zones is underway. The first public meeting on attendance zones was held Feb. 1, 2021. This meeting featured an overview of the process and timeline, sharing of board-approved parameters, demographic information and projected enrollments, a review of current boundaries, and an introduction of “starter option” maps as a starting point for discussion regarding future boundaries. Committee meetings were held on Feb. 4 and Feb. 8, at which time comments from the meeting and the Google survey were reviewed, starter maps were looked at, and potential adjustments were suggested and discussed.

A second community meeting had been scheduled for Feb. 11. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen family circumstances within our district's leadership team, that meeting has been postponed. The next community meeting on the schedule is March 2, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

In addition to the development of elementary attendance zones, middle school attendance zones/feeder patterns are being discussed. Middle school feeder patterns are influenced by two challenging factors:  1) we now have an odd number of elementary schools and an even number of middle schools and 2) our middle schools have different capacities (Sycamore Springs Middle School has a capacity of 850 and Dripping Springs Middle School has a capacity of 1,200).

Meetings are shown live on YouTube, and recordings are archived. Members of the community also are given the opportunity to sign in as a webinar participant if they wish to speak live during the meeting.

An additional public meeting has been scheduled for March 9. The DSISD Board of Trustees will be presented with attendance zone options at the March 22 meeting and consider adoption at the March 29 meeting. Updates will be provided on the Attendance Zones webpage, including adjusted map options when they are ready. This page also includes an updated timeline for the process, FAQ, and board-approved parameters.
