DSHS Swimmers Sweep Team Titles at District 18-5A Championships

The Dripping Springs High School boys' and girls' swimming and diving teams both captured team titles Friday at the District 18-5A Championships in San Antonio.

 

The girls' team totaled 214 points to win the meet by 58 points. The Lady Tigers claimed five event wins with Anna Hoskovec capturing three gold medals with victories in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle races and the 400-yard freestyle relay. Peyton Grot-Lopp was the top finisher in the 100-yard breaststroke. The 200-yard freestyle relay of Athena Turner, Savannah Karas, Riley Dalton and Julia Carter set a school record in that event with a time of 1:40.01 to capture first place.

 

The boys' team claimed six victories en route to a district title with 207 points. Quinn Mauck earned three-top finishes with victories in the 200-yard individual medley, 100-yard backstroke and the 400-yard freestyle relay to tie as the district's Swimmer of the Meet. Other first-place medalists were Brendan Burt (100-yard butterfly) and Jackson Ledbetter (500-yard freestyle). The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Mauck, Ben Adams, Gage Hembree and Joseph Parsons rounded out the first-place finishers.

 

The boys’ 200-yard freestyle relay of Mauck, Colin O’Connor, Brendan Burt and Nolan Granger also set a school record with a time of 1:31.35 and placed second.

 

Andrea McCarthy was named District 18-5A Coach of the Year for both boys and girls.

 

DSHS will advance 15 girls and 14 boys to the regional competition set to begin Feb. 4 at the Friendswood ISD Natatorium. The diving competition will be held Thursday, followed by girls' swimming Friday, and boys' swimming on Saturday.
