Superintendent's District Update
September 26, 2020
Superintendent Todd Washburn shared a video message with the DSISD community; the following is the script from that message:
Hello Tiger Family,
As we wrap up our second week of having students both on-campus and at-home learning, I’d like to give a giant shout-out to our teachers. They are amazingly adaptable and innovative and put the needs of their students first every day. I also want to recognize the efforts of our support staff. They have gone above and beyond for our students.
Our instructional leaders and teachers have set a priority of providing equitable experiences to in-person and remote learners. We want our remote students to feel completely connected to their teachers and their classrooms.
We know it’s not always perfect, but we are all committed to learning and growing together.
I also want to make sure all of our students are taking care of their social-emotional needs as well. Our counselors are available for both remote and in-person students through scheduled appointments. Please check our websites or call your school Counseling Office for more information.
Our district leaders continue to evaluate our safety protocols, working closely with our campus administrators who are in the trenches every day.
For instance, schools will now be more flexible with mask-wearing when students are outside for recess — and also in PE.
Thank you parents for your cooperation with the daily self-screener process. It really helps us maintain a safe environment for our students and staff.
In the event of a test-confirmed COVID case, we will continue our practice of notifying staff and parents at that campus and tracing close contacts.
I also want to remind you that we have opened our window to request a change in learning format -- remote or in-person -- for the second nine-week grading period. If you wish to remain in your current learning format, no action is required on your part. To make a change in format, log into Family Access, and fill out the "Term 2 Learning Options" form.
The deadline to submit your request is Friday October 2.
Lastly, I want to thank you as well. Each of us have been impacted by the pandemic and I know that we all look forward to the day when things are back to normal. Thanks for partnering with us to provide an exceptional learning environment for all of our students.
Be well and stay safe!
