August Board Meeting Summary
August 26, 2020
The DSISD Board of Trustees held its regular monthly meeting on August 24 using a virtual format. Board members connected via Zoom and the meeting was streamed live on YouTube. A full summary of the meeting is available in Board Briefs.
Assistant Superintendent Karen Kidd shared that the community committee application period is open, that Title IX training is underway, and she gave an overview of the asynchronous plan for remote learning.
Project Manager Mike Garcia introduced the August construction update that addressed the high school renovations, Transportation Center renovations, and construction of the new Walnut Springs Elementary construction and Elementary #5.
Superintendent Todd Washburn provided updates on legal fees, increase in enrollment, city public hearings, device distribution and connectivity, and guidelines regarding remote learning and student privacy. Mr. Washburn recommended to the board that DSISD continue with the scheduled in-person start date of Sept. 14.
The Board report discussed a stipend opportunity to attend a national conference, and representation on the PTA Council, CAPCOG, and the Dripping Springs Education Foundation. Action taken included: approval of the attestation of asynchronous learning, and three resolutions regarding leave options related to COVID. The board accepted Mr. Washburn's recommendation and did not propose a four-week extension to remote learning, as offered by the Texas Education Agency.
In addition to the regularly schedule August 24 meeting, special meetings were held August 3 and 10, and a workshop and agenda review meeting was held August 17.
