DSHS Boys' Basketball Finishes Second in District, Begins Playoffs

February 24, 2020

The Dripping Springs High School boys basketball team ended the regular season on an eight-game winning streak, including a home victory over 5A #18 state-ranked Austin LBJ High School. The Tigers finished second in District 25-5A behind LBJ with a 12-2 record. For the season, the Tigers are 22-5, with their only out-of-district losses to 6A schools (Austin Westlake HS, Lake Travis HS, Hays HS).

The Tigers begin the playoffs in the bi-district round versus Boerne Champion High School at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Clemens High School in Schertz. DSHS has qualified for the playoffs for four straight years marking the first time since the 1985-88 seasons that DSHS has accomplished that feat. This year's Tigers are led by senior guards Xavier Phillips and Trace Young, both of whom have committed to playing basketball in college (Phillips-Texas Lutheran University, Young-Colorado State University). Juniors Jayden Guevara, Aidan Bailey, Luke Lawyer, and Eli Tod also contribute significantly to the team.

The boys' basketball coaches are Craig Swannack, Thomas Acker, Matt Wilkins, and Brian Thiebaud.
