Boys' Wrestling Wins District Title; Girls' Team Finishes Third

The Dripping Springs High School boys' wrestling team was champion of the District 13-5A meet held in Austin on Feb. 5-6. The team finished ahead of second-place Cedar Park HS by a total of 50.5 points. DSHS finished with a total of 268 team points, based on its individual wrestlers' finishes. A girls squad also competed at the district meet, finishing in third place behind Leander Glenn High School and Austin Navarro High School. Six DSHS male wrestlers won district titles in their weight classes, as did one female.

 

District champions were:
Evan Hicks, Soph. (106 pounds)
Micah Ribera, Sr. (126 pounds)
Daniel Mayes, Jr. (145 pounds)
Chase Warden, Sr. (152 pounds)
Jefferson Guerrero, Jr. (160 pounds)
Luke Norton, Jr. (170 pounds)
Cat Miller, Jr. (girls' 119 pounds) 

 

Eleven other DSHS wrestlers (eight boys and three girls) will join the seven district champions at the regional meet by placing in the top four of their respective weight classes at the district meet.

Brodie Dyer, Sr., second place at 132 pounds
Zach Eveleth, Jr., second place at 138 pounds
Christian Prehar, Jr., second place at 220 pounds
Cole Kaspar, Soph., third place at 120 pounds
Michael Gutierrez, Sr., third place at 182 pounds
Colby Collins, Sr., third place at 195 pounds
Chance Wylie, Sr., third place at 285 pounds

 

Girls
Alyson Brownson-Welch, Soph., second place at 128 pounds
Lauryn Hammond, Jr., fourth place at 138 pounds
Caroline Nix, Soph., fourth place at 148 pounds

The DSHS junior varsity boys' team also competed at the district meet and finished first among JV squads. DSHS Wrestling is coached by Joe Kirksey who was also honored at the District meet with the Boys District Coach of the Year award.

The 5A Region IV Championships will be held at the AISD Delco Activity Center Feb. 14-15, 2020.
