Two Selected as All-State Band Members

January 20, 2020

Dripping Springs High School senior Johnny Dollard (trumpet) and junior Drew Wilson (alto sax) have been selected to the 2020 Texas All-State Band. All-State is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive; only the top 2.6 percent of nearly 67,000 musicians who initially audition earn all-state recognition.

This prestigious honor is determined through a competitive process held across the state at district, region, and area levels. Individual musicians perform selected music for a panel of judges who rank each instrument or voice part. From this ranking, a select group of musicians advances from their Region to compete against musicians from other areas in eight TMEA Area competitions. The highest-ranking musicians judged at the TMEA Area competitions qualify to perform at the state level.

Members of the All-State Band will perform as part of the 2020 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Clinic/Convention at the Henry B. González Convention Center in San Antonio, on Feb.15, 2020. All-state students participate in three days of rehearsals directed by nationally recognized conductors, then perform for thousands of attendees at the conclusion of the convention.

This is Johnny’s fourth time selected to the All-State Band and Drew’s second. Johnny is the son of Joe and Luellyn Dollard. Drew is the son of David Wilson and Merri Loftin.

The Texas Music Educators Association is an association of more than 13,500 school music educators dedicated to promoting excellence in music education.
