Dripping Springs High School students competing in Leadership Development Events (LDEs) through the FFA were successful this fall, including one group that won a state title.
Qualifying for state competition was the winning team in the event Senior Chapter Conducting of Caroline Olson, Skylar Duleba, Sarah Beth Ragan, Carys Blackmon, Abbi Chafe, Caitlyn Alderson, Annie Terrell, and Billie Kaye VanTrease (alternates Isabel Fernandez and Paige Smith). In this competition, teams conduct a mock chapter meeting to demonstrate knowledge of basic parliamentary law and the use of correct parliamentary procedures. At the conclusion of the meeting, team members are asked questions regarding parliamentary law. These state champions will be recognized at the Texas FFA Convention in July and will compete at the national contest in October of 2020.
Also competing at the state event in "Job Interview" was Faith Baxter; she placed seventh in the first heat.
The Senior Chapter Conducting team earned the trip to state based on an Area VII title, while Baxter placed second at the area contest to move on. The top two in each of eight area events qualify for state competition. Also competing at the area event and placing eighth was the Greenhand Chapter Conducting team of Kate Tressler, Ginny Falls, Megan Joost, Emma Henson, Ryan Kaiser, Peyton Hipolito, Isabel Fernandez.
The River District LDE included seven schools. Dripping Springs' three area qualifiers placed among the top two district teams to earn the right to advance; eight other DSHS teams placed among the top seven schools.
