DSHS Volleyball and Football Seasons Come to an End in 5A Playoffs

The Dripping Springs High School volleyball and football seasons came to an end in the 5A playoffs on back-to-back days. The volleyball team advanced to the 5A Region IV final in thrilling fashion by defeating #4 Gregory-Portland High School in five sets in the regional semifinals on Friday, Nov. 15. The Tigers fell behind early, losing the first two sets by scores of 21-25 and 23-25. The team showed resiliency by winning the next three sets in a row (25-21, 25-19, 15-9) to advance to the regional championship match versus Alamo Heights High School on Saturday, Nov. 16. The Tigers ran out of steam against the Mules, falling in straight sets (12-25, 22-25, 21-25).
In 2019 DSHS claimed its eighth consecutive district championship, finishing 14-0 in district, while not losing a single set in any district match. The program has now won 87 consecutive district matches. In the playoffs DSHS defeated Seguin High School and San Antonio Highlands High School in straight sets and Boerne Champion High School in four sets. The team finishes the season with a 43-12 record and advanced to the regional tournament for the eighth time in school history and sixth time in the last eight years.
On Nov. 15 the DSHS football team was defeated in the bi-district round of the playoffs by Manor High School for the second consecutive year. The Tigers fell by a score of 27-28. The final points scored came on a blocked field goal attempt by the Tigers that Manor returned for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. The Tigers finish the season with a 9-2 record and a district championship, finishing with a perfect 7-0 record in district play.
