Cross Country Teams Wrap Up Successful Season at State Meet

The DSHS girls and boys cross country teams both finished in the top-10 of the team standings at the 5A State Championship cross country meet at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock on Saturday, Nov. 9.
The girls' squad finished in 7th place overall and were led by junior Maddie Livingston, who placed 35th in a personal-best time of 18:46.17. Sophomores Karsten Bobb and Marleena Mickel finished next for the Tigers; Bobb in 41st place in 18:53.57 and Mickel in 58th place in 19:08.53. Senior Ellie Hovre finished 73rd in 19:18.81, and senior Kora Meyers was 94th in 19:39.15 to round out the Tigers runners who counted toward the team finish. Juniors Caroline Russey and Madison Tafoya also competed for DSHS.
The boys' team finished in 10th place overall, led by tenth place individual finisher Caleb Lopez. Lopez, a junior, finished in 15:15.06 Also counting toward the team score were sophomore Brant Melton (65th in 16:11.17), senior Kyler Meyers (72nd in 16:14.38), sophomore Mason Simons (102nd in 16:40.56), and sophomore Dominic Gearing (116th in 16:57.89). Also running for DSHS were freshmen Austin Wolfe and Shane Bookbinder.
The cross country teams are coached by Marisa Tuzzi, Kourtney Morris, and Thomas Acker.
