DSHS Team Tennis and Cross Country Teams Advance to Postseason

Three Dripping Springs High School teams advanced to the postseason in their respective sports. On Oct. 2, the DSHS team tennis squad defeated Lockhart HS in the District 25-5A championship match 10-0 to clinch the district title. The Tigers defeated both Austin Travis HS and Austin McCallum HS by scores of 10-0 in early rounds at the district tournament. DSHS advanced through the bi-district round by defeating SA Wagner HS 10-0 on Oct. 14 and became area champions by defeating Northside Harlan 17-2 on Oct. 17. On Oct. 21, DSHS lost a close match to #11 state-ranked Boerne Champion HS in the regional quarterfinals by a score of 10-9.
On Oct. 18, the girls' and boys' cross country teams competed at the District 25-5A meet in Lockhart. The girls won the district title, while the boys finished in second place. The seven DSHS female runners finished in the top 12 at the meet. Counting toward the team score for DSHS (top-five team finishers) were: Maddie Livingston (district champion; pictured), completing the 5,000-meter race in 18 minutes 56.6 seconds, Karsten Bobb was second in 19:05.1, Ellie Hovre was fourth in 19:41.8, Marleena Mickel was 6th in 19:46.0, and Kora Meyers was eighth in 19:58.4. Madison Tafoya finished 11th and Caroline Russey was 12th.
The boys' team was led by Caleb Lopez's second-place finish (15:47.1). Also contributing to the team score were Brant Melton (sixth place in 16:11.4), Kyler Meyers (eighth place in 16:28.1), Christopher Cohen (11th place in 16:51.7), and Mason Simons (12th place in 16:54.4). Other Tiger runners were Dominic Gearing (15th place) and Shane Bookbinder (16th place).
By virtue of the finishes at district, both the girls' and boys' teams have advanced to compete at the Region IV meet on the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi campus on Monday, Oct. 28. The top four teams and top 10 individuals not on a qualifying team at the regional meet will qualify for the UIL state meet.
