The Dripping Springs High School Marching Band is entering the UIL competition portion of its season with this year's show titled "Mass=Force/Acceleration." The first step toward the state competition is the Region 18 Marching Contest on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Burger Center in Austin. If the Tiger Band receives a Superior Rating, it will advance to the Area prelims contest on Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Pfield in Pflugerville. Should the band qualify for Area Finals and place high enough to qualify, it then will finish out the season at the UIL State Marching Contest on Nov. 4-5 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
The band has participated in several competitions leading up to the UIL season, beginning with the Capital City Marching Festival in September. At that event, DSHS placed second in the Music and Visual category out of 21 total bands and the color guard earned first place in its category. On Oct. 5, the band participated in the Vista Ridge Marching Festival. The band placed third in finals out of 26 bands (second amongst 5A schools), scoring second-highest in the Visual/Marching category and placing fourth in both the Music and General Effect categories. On Oct. 19, the band competed at the Bands of America Waco Regional Championship at Baylor's McLane Stadium.DSHS placed eighth out of all 29 bands competing, only .2 points out of the seventh place. During prelims, DSHS was third in its class and was awarded Outstanding Visual Performance.
