Elementary #5 Planning Update

The planning process for Dripping Springs ISD’s fifth elementary school, to be built on district-owned property southeast of the Darden Hill Road/Sawyer Ranch Road intersection, is continuing following the gathering of stakeholder input.

 

Four staff/community meetings were held August 27-28 and input was gathered via an online questionnaire. Input was requested on desired location for an elementary school on the 155-acre property and desired design features for the school.

 

Corgan Architects have since been working on a feasibility study that included potential options for both Elementary #5 and future facilities that could eventually be built on the site. Previously a feasibility study had been conducted to determine what facilities could fit on the site; the latest study provided more detail regarding potential location of the elementary school, as well as a middle school, a high school if the community decides to move to a multiple high school model, and possibly a satellite transportation facility.

 

At the Sept. 16 Board workshop, Doug Koehne of Corgan Architects presented an overview of the feasibility study. He summarized the site conditions including the topography and tree survey, and shared the information/input that has been gathered. Mr. Koehne gave a site inventory of what future facilities could eventually be built, then introduced four options for a site master plan that would place the elementary school in such a way that space would be available for other facilities. Because placement of facilities other than Elementary #5 was for feasibility purposes only, design features for those buildings have yet to be discussed and determined (whether a transportation satellite is included, driveways vehicle entrances/exits for potential secondary schools, size of high school stadium, etc.).

 

The district also announced that an ELementary #5 Input Committee is being formed to provide input on plans for Elementary #5. The committee, which will include representation from staff, parents, and community members, will meet four times in the next two months.
