Senior Portfolio Update
Seniors of the Class of 2021,
Firstly, it has come to my attention through many conversations, that the “why” behind portfolios is not entirely clear for everyone. The point of portfolios is to have seniors reflect on their experiences and share with their teachers, administrators, and community members their plans for the future. It is truly the only time that we get to hear from an entire class of students on an individual basis reflect on their educational experience at DSHS in a personal setting. This is also an important part of the feedback process, wherein we get to hear the positives and negatives of your experiences and take that as input in school decision-making. We also want to ensure that you have some essential documents ready that you will need in your life outside of school - your resume and a cover letter, as well as, have the ability to practice presentation skills that you will need in your future endeavors. Lastly, we want to be able to celebrate with you as you take this very important step into your adult life.
Secondly, after input was taken into consideration and much thought, I have decided to add an option to Senior Portfolios this year to allow for those who are anxious about the process a way to provide insight into your time at DSHS and discuss future plans, without the concern of a formal presentation. We will continue to offer the portfolio presentation for those who would like that experience and have already begun working on the presentation. Seniors who choose to participate in the traditional portfolio process will receive a cord to wear for graduation.
However, we will also offer a “Senior Exit-Interview” this year as well. The difference is that you will not need to have a formal presentation, rather you will sit with a panel (number of people TBD) either in-person or via Zoom and be asked questions regarding your time in high school and your plans for the future. Therefore, not having to prepare a formal presentation, but still submitting a resume and self-reflection.
To be clear, if you would like to walk in graduation, you will need to fill out the form below choosing which option you would prefer and you will receive specific instructions to ensure success in any modality:
