DSHS BEST Robotics Team Captures Award at Texas Regional Championship
January 7, 2021
The Dripping Springs High School BEST Robotics Team captured the 2020 BEST Simulink Design Award at the Texas BEST Regional Championship.
The BEST Simulink Design Award is open to all teams competing in the robotics competition with one team earning the award in each of the three BEST regions (Texas, Denver, Souths) across the country.
Unlike in prior years, the competition was held virtually for 2020. The DSHS team was comprised of Huston Smith, Hashim Aziz and Dominic Garofolo.
The team was tasked with creating a robot that worked in a virtual environment. The team put together a robot that moved and interacted within a simulated playground with sensors indicating whether or not the robot had a COVID encounter. They had to create this in two programs - autonomous and teleoperation.
The students produced a short three-minute video describing the program they built and wrote a brief description.
BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science & Technology) is a middle school and high school robotics competition whose mission is to engage and excite students about engineering, science, and technology as well as inspire them to pursue careers in these fields.
