Duties of the SLAC include recommending:

• Policies and procedures for acquisition of materials consistent with local community values;

• Whether library materials proposed for acquisition or that are donated are appropriate for each grade level for the identified campus(es);

• Joint use agreements or strategies for collaboration between the district and local public libraries and community organizations, if feasible;

• Removal of library materials the SLAC determines harmful material or material containing indecent or profane content inconsistent with local community values or age appropriateness;

• Policies and procedures for processing challenges;

• Action taken in response to a challenge.

• All recommendations made by the local school library council must adhere to the library standards.
