Bilingual Program
The Dripping Springs ISD Bilingual Program is a full time Dual Language (DL) Immersion/One-Way Biliteracy program model. Our one-way language program is a dynamic learning environment designed specifically for native Spanish-speaking students. We are committed to honoring and developing a student's home language and culture while systematically building their ability to listen, speak, read and write in academic English. Our instruction is designed to be challenging, interactive, and authentic (CIA), accelerating learning by teaching to the top 25% to ensure all students are engaged in rigorous, high-level thinking.
The Texas Education Code (§29.051) requires school districts to provide every language minority student with the opportunity to participate in a bilingual or other special language program. Texas Administrative Code Chapter 89, Subchapter BB (§89.1205) specifies that each school district which has an enrollment of 20 or more EBs in any language classification in the same grade level district-wide shall offer a Bilingual education program in elementary grades through 5th grade, including 6th grade when clustered with elementary.
Program Goals
Provide the educational environment and instruction that will allow all students to become bilingual, biliterate and bicultural
Develop fluency in communication and literacy in both English and Spanish
Increase academic achievement in all areas
In DSISD, the DL program begins in pre-kindergarten and continues through fifth grade. Our district offers a 50/50 Dual Language Enrichment model that provides approximately 50% of instruction in each language (English and Spanish) across subject areas, while also incorporating some subject-based language allocations and daily language alternation to reach the 50/50 balance by time and content.
Transportation for Dual Language Participants
The dual language program is housed at Dripping Springs Elementary (DSE). Transportation services at provided for students who do not reside in the DSE attendance zone boundary.
