    Pre-K Family Engagement Plan

    Dripping Springs Elementary School will create a partnership between our Pre-Kindergarten families and our community. Through collaboration, DSES will actively pursue our goal of empowering families for student success.  

    Definition of Family and Family Engagement - HB4:

    Family includes adults and children significant in the child’s life who support the early learning and development of the child.  Family engagement is the mutual responsibility of families, schools, and communities to build relationships to support student learning and achievement and to support family well-being and the continuous learning and development of children, families, and educators.  Family engagement is fully integrated into the child’s educational experience and supports the whole child and is both culturally responsive and linguistically appropriate. 

    Six Components:

      1.  Facilitate school to family support:

    • Volunteering
    • School-Wide Family Events
    • Principal Coffees/Leader in Me Training
    • Campus PTA meetings and events

      2.  Establish a network of community resources:

    • Assist in facilitating contact with community resources
    • Hays County Public Health - Immunization Clinics

      3.  Increase family participation in decision making:

    • Pre-Kindergarten families will be invited to participate and serve on:
      • Campus committees
      • PTA committees
      • Parent Lighthouse Team

      4.  Equip families with tools to enhance and extend their learning:

    • Families will be provided with learning opportunities for learning
      • Teachers provide support with CLI Engage components and how to support learning at home
      • At home resources in each content area provided by classroom teachers
      • Basic computer skills for young learners and apps. that support learning
      • PK monthly newsletter 
      • Parent/Teacher Conferences

      5.  Develop staff skills in evidence-based practices that support families in meeting their child’s learning benchmarks:

    • Staff will be provided training and or support in the implementation of:
      • CLI Engage
      • PBIS
      • SEL/Restorative Practices
      • Small group instruction
      • Writing
      • Computer skills for young learners
      • Morning Message
      • Read Alouds
      • Curriculum documents and scope and sequence

      6.  Evaluate family engagement efforts for continuous improvement:

    • Feedback will be sought from families through:
      • Parent surveys
      • During on-campus meetings

    ***Feedback gathered will be used to guide future planning and development of the Pre K program at DSES.
