BILINGUAL EDUCATION/ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL)
English Language Learners have a home language other than English and demonstrate a need to improve English proficiency. DSISD offers both ESL (English as a Second Language) and Dual Language One-Way Bilingual Program.
Dripping Springs Elementary hosts the dual-language one-way bilingual program for DSISD. Gomez and Gomez One-Way model means only native Spanish speakers are hosted in the program. The goal of the dual-language program is for students to leave fifth grade proficient in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English and Spanish.
This program was implemented for PK, K, and first grade in the 2018-19 school year; second grade was added in 2019-20 and third grade was added in 2020-21. The campus supports the program by learning and using Spanish phrases during the Language of the Day. Currently, our fourth- and fifth-grade bilingual learners participate in Early Exit.
