BILINGUAL EDUCATION / ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL)
English Language Learners have a home language other than English and demonstrate a need to improve English proficiency. DSISD offers both ESL (English as a Second Language) and DUAL LANGUAGE One Way Bilingual Program.
Dripping Springs Elementary hosts the dual-language one-way bilingual program for DSISD. GOMEZ AND GOMEZ One Way model means we host native Spanish speakers only in the program. The goal of the dual-language program is for students to leave 5th grade proficient in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English and Spanish.
We implemented in PK, K, and 1 in the 18-19 school year and added 2nd grade in 19-20. This year we will implement the dual-language model in grade 3. The campus supports the program by learning and using Spanish phrases during the Language of the Day. Currently, our 4th-5th-grade bilingual learners participate in Early Exit.
