SSES Counselors

  • As school counselors, we are here to support all students, families, and staff at Sycamore Springs Elementary! We provide classroom lessons known as CARE classes, individual counseling, small group counseling. We collaborate on planning Social Emotional Learning author visits and in general, provide support where needed. If you would like support for your child’s social-emotional needs, please do not hesitate to reach out to us any time. We are here to help!

    Susie Carrell:
I’m so excited to be joining the SSE school community this year! I’ve been a School Counselor for 17 years. My passion has always been working with young children as it’s such an exciting time in their growth and development. After working as a Social Worker for 4 years, I decided to become a School Counselor so I could support students with their education. I earned my MEd/EdS from the University of Florida in 2000 and have worked in 5 elementary schools since then.

My husband and I relocated to Texas this summer so we could be closer to our two sons. Our oldest was married this summer and is attending graduate school at Baylor while our younger son is finishing his degree at OU. We look forward to going boating and attending UT, Baylor and OU sporting events all year long!

I also look forward to meeting your student(s) and finding ways to encourage, motivate, and support them at SSE!

    Abbey Smart:
I LOVE that I get to be one of the school counselors at Sycamore Springs Elementary! This is my 19th year in education.  I was a classroom teacher for 16 years and had the honor of teaching at Sycamore Springs Elementary when it opened. I decided to start my own educational journey a few years ago to become a school counselor so I could focus on the social emotional needs of students to help support their learning. I completed my Masters in School Counseling at the University of Texas at Tyler in May of 2021 and started as a school counselor at Sycamore in the Fall of 2021.  I have loved being a part of the Dripping Springs ISD family and feel fortunate to be here.  I live in Dripping Springs with my husband, Whitten, and two children, Ryan and Jackson.
