Hello, Rooster Springs Families,
My name is Steve Novickas, and I am the proud principal of Rooster Springs Elementary! I welcome you to our neighborhood school in Dripping Springs ISD. Together, the students, parents, staff, and community members strive to live out our mission every day to “encourage positive relationships and foster a safe environment to ignite the desire to learn.”
Before my time at Rooster Springs Elementary School, I was an assistant principal at Sycamore Springs Middle School. Before then, I lived in Colorado where I started my teaching and administration career.
My wife, Katie, and I have three children: Boston, Brielle, and Berklee. We are very involved in the Dripping Springs community through church and extra-curricular sports. Oftentimes, you can find me coaching one of our kid’s teams on the weekends! Originally, I am a native of the Chicagoland area. I enjoy being active in my spare time, spending quality time with family, and rooting for most Chicago sports teams!
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have throughout the school year. I enjoy engaging in conversations and getting to know the families that we serve. I look forward to “RiSE Together” as one learning community!
Respectfully,
Steve Novickas

I am so excited to continue to be the Assistant Principal of Rooster Springs Elementary School. I was born and raised mostly in Houston. I lived in Chicago from the ages of 4-8 and went to school from Kindergarten through 2nd grade in the Windy City. After graduating from high school in Houston, I moved to San Marcos. I graduated from Texas State University, still Southwest Texas to me, with both my Undergraduate and Master’s Degrees. I knew from the age of 8 that I wanted to be a teacher and never veered from that decision.I have worked at Austin ISD for the last 26½ years, teaching 1st–5th grades, as an Instructional Coach, and as a summer school Principal. During my time in AISD, I have held many different positions, such as a mentor, curriculum writer, dyslexia designee, presenter for Professional Development, technology coach, and many other duties.I have five children who keep me busy. My oldest are twin daughters who graduated from Texas State in May of 2019 with Education Degrees and are now teachers. My middle 2 daughters are both in college, one is working on becoming a Vet at Texas A & M and the other is working on completing her degree in Kinesiology from St. Edward’s University. My son, who is the youngest, is finishing up his Personal Training Certification to become a fitness instructor. In my free time, I like to be at the beach or lake, and I love to travel and shop.I am so looking forward to continuing working at Rooster Springs with all of the fabulous students and staff.Cordially,
Kim Taylor
