  • The Legislature of the State of Texas, operating under the biennial system, convenes its regular sessions at noon on the second Tuesday in January of odd-numbered years. The maximum duration of a regular session is 140 days. The 87th session of the Texas State Legislature convened on Jan. 12, 2021, and is scheduled to adjourn on May 31, 2021. The legislators serving in this session took office following the 2020 elections. The budget that is approved during this session governs spending for the 2022-23 biennium.
