The opening of Sycamore Springs Middle School marked the first time in district history that students attended two different middle schools in DSISD. Located on Sawyer Ranch Road just north of the Highpointe neighborhood, SSMS opened in the Fall of 2017. Initially, it is designed for 850 students, but has the potential to expand to 1,200 students with an additional wing. While SSMS operates separately from Sycamore Springs Elementary, the two schools are connected in order to gain efficiency in areas such as the shared kitchen, to reduce the overall footprint of the structure, and to allow for collaborative opportunities between the two schools.
