TRADITIONAL FOOD-BASED PLANNING
Dripping Springs ISD Schools follow the Traditional Food-Based Menu Planning. The meals must include specific food group components in specific amounts for specific age / grade groups. Menus served must meet the nutrient standards as well as the meal pattern requirements.
OFFER VS. SERVE PROGRAM
Dripping Springs ISD participates in the Offer vs. Serve Program. This program is a serving method designed to reduce food waste and food costs in the school lunch program without jeopardizing the nutritional integrity of the lunches served. It allows students to choose what they would like to eat. The meals are broken down into components and the students are required to take a minimum of three components to have the meal qualify as a reimbursable meal. In addition, they must choose at least a 1/2 cup fruit or a 1/2 cup vegetable in order to be counted as a reimbursable meal (up to 3/4 cup vegetable is offered).
