Bad Weather Procedures
When there is a concern for an inclement weather event, Dripping Springs ISD follows certain procedures to help drive the decision to either delay the start of school, dismiss school early, or cancel school.
DSISD knows the delay or cancellation of school has a significant impact on our families. However, we also want to ensure that we are making decisions that are in the best interest of our students and staff.
The following steps are taken when inclement weather threatens normal school operations:
The Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent and the Director of Safety visit with local meteorologists and the National Weather Service regarding weather conditions.
The Director of Transportation will determine the driving conditions of roadways across the District. Road conditions are then reported to the Superintendent.
Once a decision is made, the Superintendent notifies the Board of Trustees and district leadership team.
The DSISD communications department will notify families and staff via an automated phone call, text, email and on the district's social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, X). Local media will also be notified.
*Please note, announcements will NOT be made when schools maintain their regularly scheduled hours.
Transportation
When there is a delayed start to school, bus pick-up times will be delayed the same amount of time that the school day is delayed (i.e. if school is delayed two hours, buses will run two hours later).
Community Services
Any time DSISD is closed for inclement weather, all Community Services classes and activities (including after-school child care, evening adult classes, etc.) will be cancelled. Class sessions will be rescheduled if and when these closings occur.
