Debate I, Debate II and Debate III –

February 2017

Debate I students are learning about policy debate (often called CX Debate, which is short for cross examination debate).  In policy debate, there are two students on the affirmative team and two students on the negative team. These four students will debate before the class the current policy debate resolution, Resolved: the United States federal government should substantially increase its economic and/or diplomatic engagement with the People’s Republic of China. Make sure to ask your student if they are affirmative or negative and what arguments they are preparing to run in their class debate.

Debate II, Debate III and Debate IV students are preparing for upcoming UIL and TFA tournaments. Our UIL Season is off to a winning start. In January, we had one student compete at the UIL State Congressional Debate tournament and last week, we had two teams dominate the UIL CX Debate District tournament taking 1st and 2nd place and advancing to UIL State in March. Advanced debaters DO have extemporaneous speaking articles due next Wednesday or Thursday depending on which class they are in(February 8/9) and then on February 22/23, 2017.
